Alissa Kaplan is a broom maker and fiber artist in Petaluma. She will discuss a global view of brooms and focus on the historical aspects of brooms in Europe and America. Alissa brought her small personal collection of brooms to view at our March 2023 meeting. She also had her handcrafted brooms for sale.
Alissa has worked in many mediums; ceramics, painting, and printing making. But since moving to Petaluma 10 years ago her main focus has been in fiber arts and broom making. When working in fiber she uses local wool and her products are created fleece to garment. Working every stage, washing, hand spinning and weather knitting or weaving. Alissa’s broom work is based in Shaker / Appalachian style with her own artistic flare. The pieces are both beautiful and functional.
